--- In a Nutshell... ---

My research focuses on organic semiconductors and conducting polymers for future-emerging sensing applications to rival the abilities of our own senses: With two aims, studying their intrinsic sensitivity for chemistry and molecules to enable such a concept as an integrated electronic nose, and unraveling their potential for evolutionary electronics as a bioinspiration for tomorrow's microelectronic manufacturing.

--- What's missing to Machine Olfaction... ---

Electronic noses are non-metrological sensing technologies which aim at mimicking olfaction for an electronics system to infer on the molecular composition of a gas-phase environment. Unlike for vision, no two humans share the same sense of smell, by the number and the variety of our receptors. The strategy to build such electronic device is therefore far different from the way we can build a camera, by the necessity to design chemically sensitive functional materials and the way data can be processed by a system which naturally evolves to user-specific perception classifications.
